We measure the process - take an example of a pizza restaurant. The entire objective of the Measure phase in Six Sigma boils down to measuring the performance of the process with respect to the interested parameter (project y) on a universal quality scale (sigma scale). But after a deeper discussion, we found that they were a wrong method of calculation - because of a common misconception or misunderstanding. In our session on Cpk and Ppk, their quality manager shared his concern that there were some discrepancies in the calculations and all the team members felt so. They had undergone some training program organised by their customer. They started measuring their process performance in terms of dimensions of the component in terms of Cp-Cpk because their customer wanted them to do so. A few weeks back I delivered a program for an automobile Tier 2 and Tier 3 supplier.
